My work as an intern at the South Bay YMCA (Teen Center) Internship has taught me a lot. I would measure the success of the work I have done while at my internship is being very busy. I have worked on many different projects while entering at the YMCA. I have worked a lot on Academy to prepping for Camp. What I learned from my internship is that you are never going to be working on one thing. I was given lots of different task which was nice but, I never had a due date for my task which was nice. In my mind if I did not have dead line I would be procrastinate so I would only give myself 3-4 days to work on a task and turn it in. I would have 1 day to research, 2 days to get the doc done and the last day to make edit and clean it up before turning it in. Doing this made me turn in efficient work that not only I was proud of but, my mentors we proud of as well. I believe that I made a very meaningful contribution to the workplace by alway staying busy. I always tried to find a task to or help where every it was need. If I finished on talk then I would ask for another one and if I had a down time I would ask if there is anything that need to get done. I knew that staying busy would show that care about my work and about what kind of experience I wanted to take away from the YMCA. I wanted to be able to produce good work and I wanted to be that intern that everyone remember. When going to my internship I went it into trying to bet the intern everyone remembered as the very had working one. I think that my work as an intern very has been meaningful to my education because it has helped me with my time management skills and always staying on top of my work. I did not want to have to uses the bad excuse of I forgot when it came to working at my internship. I think that all of the work I did was very meaningful for my education because, it just tough me that most of the stuff we learn in school apply to the real world. being able to present and speak in front of people has become a secret power of mine and when I need to explain something and or present it has been really helpful to have all of these skills. My project went from all of the work that I have been getting and make it simple and easier to understand I turned all of there task in to clean cut docs that if you were to look at you would be able to understand them. I believe that I took all of the information that I learned form working at my internship and will becoming up with a binder that can bee used for many different types of people that work at the YMCA.

My South Bay YMCA Teen Center Internship in photosWelcome to my photo essay. I will be taking you through my month long trip as an intern at the South Bay YMCA thorough photos. I hope you enjoy. :) Intern everyone remembers: Self-advocacy"One of the most important skills you need in a workplace is "self advocacy" - the ability to speak up for yourself when you need support, when you're confused about something, or when you're uncomfortable with a situation." - Alec Patton “I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday. ” ― José N. Harris, MI VIDA: A Story of Faith, Hope and Love Self Advocacy: I feel like that I have advocated for yourself during my internship at the South Bay YMCA Teen Center. It has showed me a lot by advocating for myself. At my internship you can have a lot of down town if you don't ask for work and there are a lot of moments where you can just sit there do nothing. When we had that first meeting ay school about always asking for work because, some of the time your mentor has the mentality that you are just a high school student you are not capable of anything. is sad but it is very true. I know that on my first day I was set with a pretty are task that was very important. "Come up with a list of things that we can use for Academy" I had no clue what Academy was so I had to ask a lot of questions so I can be able to produce good work. Academy is one of the many camp programs that the YMCA offers over summer brake. Instead of spending time playing games and many different activities. Academy is a program that give kids to improve on there school skills by using STEM. They are able to provide a fun "summer school" environment they will be going on educational field trips that have to do what they will be learning form STEM. So working on my first task I really wanted to show that I am a teenager that can produce amazing work that will excited your expectation of what I can do. So I worked really hard on the assignment and when I turned it in I was really proud of my work and so was the person I worked on the assignment with. It was kind of cool to see that the work I did kind of surpassed his expectations of what I could do. Then all of the work I did went on to be used as a information resources for creating a lesson plan for Academy. I worked on this project for about the first week and a half so once I was done I really did not know what to do. So I had to go up to my mentor and ask for work. I wanted to be that intern that goes and ask for work and not just sit there waiting for work to be give. I think that this really showed then that I was more then just the teen intern. Yes I did do some of the work that was a not the most exciting for example: imputing over 100 names of all of the applications that would be working at the all of the different YMCA camps, cleaning and organizing the office, moving stuff to the camp storage shed out side, and helping come up with a list of games that teen could play at camp. Not everything I do as an internship will be exciting but, I was doing something. I was staying busy and always asking for work. Now my next task is something that I am really excited to work on and that is going up with a pitch about camp for young kids. This makes me very happy because, it makes me happy to get a feel of what I want to do in my future in Marking and Advertising. I have seen advocacy demonstrated in other situations at my job when it comes to working of the YMCA all of us are always coming to the people in the office asking for work so we can stay busy the more work you are doing faster your day goes by. I do think that I am following the advice in the article "How to be an intern everyone remembers"?. I am always asking for work, doing what ever they need me to do, and all with a positive attitude. I feel like if you are doing the work they ask you to do with a good attitude and you give 110% in your task and ask questions if you don't under stand then I feel like you are becoming an intern that everyone will remember. I wanted to leave that internship that I was able to do good work and make them say that "wow that was an amazing intern". Everyday when I go to my internship with the mind set of put 110% in whatever the task is with a good attitude so I can try and be the best intern I can be for them. I think that what I have been doing is working out because, I do believe that they can see all of the hard work I put into whatever I am doing.
I know that my time while working at this internship has really should me that the work you produce show how much you care. So when I got my first assignment which was working STEM for the Academy program which was coming up with topics, filed, projects, vocabulary words, and famous people who are know for in the topic or field. When I first got this topic I really did not know how I was supposed lay out all of the information I received. So I had to go back to all templet of an old study guide I had made my 10th grade year when creating the outline for this STEM project. When doing this I knew that I could apply this study guide method in college when it comes to studying for my classes. Working at my internship has shined a small light on what it is like to be an adult. I have been to a few meetings and I have been able to sit on many job interviews and it showed me that there is never a down moment. Yes there are moments where you are not doing a meaningful task but, it is something you need to do and get it done. So while working at my internship I was able to see what it's like to be a working adult. Also for a career I would love to go into Marketing and Advertising, so going to different schools and trying to pitch camp I feel like it is good practice for what I want to do into the future. Marketing and Advertising is something that I have always had a passion for. Being able to Advertise camp to young children and trying to figure out a way to Market camp in an age appropriate way is good practice for what I want to do in the future. What I have observed and learned about my mentor or other employees at my site is that they are very hard works. They are able to have fun while they work. they are able to show that even with all of the hard work they are able to take time and joke around with each other. They are also not afraid to complete someone when they producing good work also they are not afraid help in where they are weak in center areas. It was nice to see co-workers getting along in a friendly environment working together. All in all everyday I am able to lean a lot form my internship and take away so much. The McGrath Family BizTown at Junior Achievement meeting for the YMCA.We had a meeting at Junior Achievement where The McGrath Family BizTown is located. The McGrath Family BizTown at Junior Achievement (JA Biz Town) a is a place where elementary students students can learn to managing different businesses that range from operating banks, working as the town's mayor or judge, working at Cox Cable to working at State Farm. JA BizTown teaches you children to be able to make personal decisions, go to business meetings, pay taxes, donate to charity and watch their bank accounts. They become JA Citizens for the day. Which I think is super cool. I wish when I was younger we were able to do something like this. We had a meeting with JA Biz Town for many reason. One to look at the site and to talk to them about have one of the camp weeks be here at JA Biz Town. In that week they would learn about how to learn basic skill that you will need when you are older which included: business/ work meetings, learning how to pay taxes, being able to know how to balancing your checkbook, interest rates, going to work, and also pay bills. Just simple thing that are very important when you go off into the real world. Learning all of these skills is something that you don't normally learn in school. While learning about all of these topics they are going to take what is normal a four week curriculum into one week and in that one we they will be preparation for their visits to the JA Biz Town three times out of the week to put their skills to work. Going to this meeting really showed me that the YMCA really cares about their programs and they want their camp to be filled with many activities that children will be interested in. It was an amazing opportunity to go and visit The McGrath Family BizTown at Junior Achievement space. What should I do for my Internship Project ?For my project I wanted to be able to do something that helps they YMCA in a positive way. I feel like for me to do that I would have to be working with the outreach to start pushing parents to singing there children up for camp which has many different weekly programs for diff all different age groups and interest. I have already worked a little bit with the working on camp program. For example; I helped come up with an outline that had to do with STEM with stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This STEM program is for the Academy part of camp. To get the parents excited about wanting to send there children off to camp we had to somehow get there children excited. To want to go and tell there parents about camp. Three of my fellow interning members and I will be going to diffrent elementary schools putting on an assembly talking about camp and getting then excited about camp on why they should go. Some skills that I will need in order to make to make my assembly awesome is to talk about subjects that children want to hear about. Also I do not want to talk at them I want it to feel like a conversation. I know that the age group of children that we will be talking to in for First - Sixth Graders but, I know that they do not want to have to sit for an hour and listen to boring stuff. So I through that if I through in a few easy games to keep the children interactive and say that this is just a little taste of what camp is like. It may get more kids excited to want to go to camp over summer. I know that if I am able to do this then we will be able to have a success assembly. Some support that I think that I will need to be be able to have a success assembly that is full of useful information that young children to understand. Will have to be from my group members. We are all going to need to work together so we can have a assembly that is relatable to children and that gets the message across that going to camp is very helpful to a young child's life and will be very beneficial.

All work.
It is now my third day at my internship and I am loving every minute of it. The YMCA holds academic camp every break and this time they wanted to uses STEM for this academic camp. Right now I have been working on a project with Matt called STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math we are using STEM to come up with a six week program that uses all of STEM. My job is to go through each topic and find 5 jobs that have to do with the the topic, 1-2 take home projects, a male and female famous person, books, and vocabulary words for each topic. Right now I don't have any question about my internship I just going with the flow and learning everything I can and I just take my internship day by day. Some connections that I can make between this internship and what you've done in school is using the outline form all of the worksheet we do and applied it to my task. I needed a way to organize all of the information I had research in a way for someone else to understand so I used all of the graphic organizer that we had used in schooled and made my own to place all of the information in it. I would have to say that I am using all of the skills that I have learned in school and applying them to my internship. Nothing has happened that is worth of telling a story but, it is only the third day. There mission is to focus on three key areas which is by nurturing children and try to let them find their fullest potential in whatever that is, also by helping people or kids live a healthier lifestyle, lastly by reaching out to our neighbors by strengthening communities. New skills that I am developing are small talk skills. When it comes to small talk I have never been a very big fan. So when people try and start a conversation with me I usually try keep it short and sweet and get back to work. If i want to build a relationship with people I work with I need to gain better people skills. The commuting to my internship is not bad at all it is a very easy drive and I do not mind it. I am enjoying everyday of my internship and all of the work I have been doing thus far.
Quick, get down your first impressions of your job before I know too much!
My internship is at the South Bay YMCA Teen center. What struck me about my workplace is the people that I get to work with. My first day was just a training day, but they made training fun in my eyes. The people that I would be able to work with were nothing like I imaged them to be, I thought that they were going to be stiff old YMCA people but, they were funny, cool, and very easy to talk to. My first day of training was on May 11, 2015 when I walked into the building it did not feel like work. Even though this would be a place that I would work with for a month I was really happy to be here. Going to my first day of training we went over a lot of information but, it was not pointless information it was stuff that we would need when working. for the company. Also all of the information that we received would help me in the long run. I was very surprised that in that first day I was able to take so much away and be able to apply it in my life in a long run. So knowing this It set a really high mark for what the rest of Internship would be. Something that strikes me most about my colleagues we as I said they were just all around cool people. They made it a point that if any of us had any question just to go up and ask them. Which was just great because, sometimes people can be rude and not want to help but, they were so helpfull on very welcoming. On May 12, 2015 I did not have the most exciting job I had sit in a office and watch videos and take notes on them and then after I had to man the welcome desk which did not have a lot of foot traffic. So it just showed me that not every day at your internship would be fun and exciting. The job that I was doing was not something that I would be doing very day because everyday for me would consist of many different task so I would have to very flexible when it came to working so this is something that I enjoyed about that job. Is how we would always be doing something. Something that I an excited about is being able to start my project, I have no clue what my project is yet. This is one of the many things I still need to talk to my mentor about. I know that my mentor will help me create a project that will be beneficial learning experience not only for me but the company as well. Something that I am worried about is not staying busy. I feel that there were moments where I was not doing enough and I could have done more but, then aging it was only my second day. All in all I had a great 2 days and I can not wait to see what is next.
