Project Introduction:In Dr. Patton class we were given the task to write about what every made you excited to write about. We did have a filed guide so we were not just thrown into this project with our eyes closed. Everything that we wrote was a non-fiction piece and it had to be about something that mattered to us. There was no question that we had to answer. It was just start put all of your thoughts on to paper and see what you came up with. We brained stormed up a few ideas using a work sheet called 1=18 topics (which you can see down bellow). I would like to call our quick writes skeletons because, they were just their to help all of us form our ideas. Some students used last year’s student-book as a guide to help and write their own piece. We used the last book to help form our book and make it better. Once done we would be collecting all our writing in an anthology, we published it, and lanuched it on Wednesday, March 25th, 2015 at Festival del Sol. Where we were able to show off our book called "The Book of Us". |
My process when writing my Piece:
What is a Mentor Text and Graphic Organizer (click the link to find out more information)?
Mentor Text is where we had to take an article and use it as a guide to help write our own pieces. Everyone had a different mentor text that matched what they wanted to write about. This is my Mentor Text which was a blog post about school and how people feel about school. When reading my Mentor Text it really helped me figure out what I wanted to write about and how I wanted to write my piece. The Graphic Organizer that we received was to ask us questions to help pull out information from our Mentor Text. Having a Mentor Text and Graphic Organizer was very helpful because it showed me what I should add in my piece, what I need to improve on, and how I should phrase center topics I talk about in my piece. When reading my Mentor Text I felt a small connection to it and that is what I wanted to do in my piece. I wanted for people to walk away from it feeling some kind of connection to it. I wanted to have moments in my piece that really made you think about school in a different light. All in all I feel like having a mentor text when writing really helped me produce a good writing piece.

My first draft
My first was just that a first draft, I placed all of my thoughts down and let my brain spill with all of the thing that I wanted to use in my piece. Here is my First down draft where I had an idea of what I wanted to write I just didn't know how to order and phrase it correctly.

Final Draft
I am very proud of my finally writing piece. Here is what I had before it got published in our book "The Book of Us".

Reflection on the project:
This project was fun and stressful at the same time. When writing on my piece I wanted to write something that was relatable to a young teen audience around my age. My whole goal was to make the readers go back and think if they had any experiences that were similar to the ones I wrote about. The feedback I got on my first few drafts helped me figure out what topics I should cover in my piece. Also looking at the students writing pieces and reading about what they had to say about the topic that they wrote about gave me different ideas on how I should word certain topics. Doing this helped me open up and have a better connection with what I was writing about. Getting and giving feed back really help me find the key points I should write in my writing piece.
When I think about it know I feel like my first draft was just a skeletons. That was to help me shape and form my piece until I had some thing that should go off of. I do plan on apply what I did in this project in my future. For example: I should always write a skeleton to help me have something to go off when writing because, I know for me look at a blank page can intimidate me. Also having other people edit my work helps me find mistake that I never knew where their. Some thing I would like to change about my own piece is to try and keep the read guessing and I feel like I could have done this a little better. I feel like some parts of my writing could have been a little stronger if I had more time. All in all I am very proud of what wrote and what my classmates wrote so you should go and check it out our book called "The Book of Us" and buy it.
